How to Build a Ferret Cage

Since ferrets are known as excellent escape artist, you need a solid, well build ferret cage for your pet.

If you plan to build a ferrets cage yourself, design it with enough room for water and food dish, nesting area and a litter box. You should consider building a multi level ferret cage to maximize the space.

First step in building a ferret cage is to purchase a metal tray and then create the base of the cage by nailing plywood to create a space of two by three feet.

You should cover the floor of the ferret cage with trimmed vinyl flooring and use glue to fill the cracks between the vinyl tiles.

You will create the cage shape by bending long wire cage section at three points and then cutting the edge of the wire, leaving one-inch cross wires. Then start removing all cross wires except for one every five or so inches and one at each end. Create loops and secure the cage by bending the wires.

To create a door in your ferret cage you should cut a hole at least six inches up.

Line your ferret cage with substrate such as paper pellet litter.
